I was so excited to find peppermint tea in the kitchen at work! I typically add Sugar in the Raw, but I think I used up all the supply at work. I will need to get my own supply of individual packets. I went for splenda instead since that seems to be the next sugar substitute of choice in the Healthy Living Blog-o-sphere!
I left work early because I knew that I had to work late on Tuesday and I also wanted to avoid any potential back-ups and traffic jams on my commute home. Oddly enough, the roads were cleared and the drive home was fine. I think that’s because most of the people stayed home from work and school.
So I went back to my apartment and repacked my overnight bag and got ready to shovel the drive way at the house. Marcin was meeting with his parent’s after work, so he was not able to.
Do I look ready to shovel snow or what!?
At least my running clothes are being put to use while I rehab my knee!
Before I set out to shovel the driveway, I needed some fuel! I had leftover lettuce wrap fixings that I wanted to finish up, but I didn't want lettuce wraps. So what did I come with?
I just added the lettuce wrap fixings (asian sprouts, lettuce, red peppers, mushrooms, and shrimp) to a can of Chicken Noodle soup. Added some paprika and cayane pepper to jump start the metab-o-lism! Oddly enough, it tasted pretty darn good.
Fed, clothed, and ready to go!
I got to the house, and proceeded to get stuck in the driveway.
Why did I not just park on the street? Well, I was in auto pilot and by the time I thought of that, I was stuck in the driveway!
Anyways, I shoveled the front part of the driveway so that I can park my car into the garage.
After that, I was a lean, mean, snow shoveling machine. We don’t have a snow blower yet, so I used the ever faithful snow shovel and ever present elbow grease. Thank god for my Zune! An hour of shoveling snow went by pretty quickly with music blaring in my ears.
I even had enough energy to shovel the walkway to the front steps.
*Tomboy Soapbox Alert* I do have to say, I am very proud of myself for accomplishing this. A lot of our neighbors were out with their fancy snowblowers walking along. They were probably thinking “Poor girl, she has to use a shovel!” To that I say HA! Number one, I may be a girl, but I’m completely rocking this driveway. Number two, I’m burning more calories because I’m engaging my core, my legs, and my upper body! I keep hearing in the back of my head my mom’s voice saying “This is a boy’s job!” to which I again say "HA! Proved you wrong!" *End of Tomboy Soapbox*
After all the hard work, there was only one thing left to do:
SNOW ANGELS!
It felt great to just jump onto the ground and have all the snow cushion your fall!
Marcin came home a little after my snow angel fun. He felt bad that he couldn’t home early enough to help with the snow (and a little jealous that i got to play in it and create a snow angel!, but he did offer to make dinner.
Unfortunately, since he hasn’t had time to go grocery shopping yet, all he had was Tuna Helper.
I was not happy about this dinner choice, but I knew that he didn’t want to get take out, so we just tried our best to healthy this bad boy up. We added black beans and peas. While we were eating, I asked marcin if he can try to go grocery shopping soon. He had been hoping to live off of lunch meat, cheese, and these boxed dinners for the next two weeks and I just couldn’t deal!
Anyways, after dinner, we started to play with my camera again while enjoying a nightcap (diet vernors and Royal candian whisky).
Marcin took my camera tried to get a candid picture of me.
He said that the light made me look like an angel (isn't he sweet?) I guess this would be my debut on my own blog (without a camera on my face, that is)! LOL! AND I'm sans make-up! EEK!
I tried to create a “People Magazine” picture of Marcin.
This one is my favorite because it was semi candid.
Next we tried posed “candid” shots.
Still learning!
I downloaded the manual for my camera. I can't wait to take time and learn more about the features and get reacquainted with the world of photography.
I am a little disappointed with myself today. I had a perfect day of snacks and lunch planned and I left it at the house! So I then proceeded to eat pizza and tuna helper! The bright side, I drank lots-o-water. Bonus points too for finding the peppermint tea and fighting the temptation to put regular sugar in my drink. Although, I really do prefer Sugar in the Raw over Splenda.
On the mental health side (Sheesh! Sound like a nut case!) of healthy living front, I got really down on myself today. I don't know what it is, but sometimes, in order to motivate and push myself, I think of the haters in my life . . or the negative things that have been said to me or done to me. In a way, I feel that this pushes me to fight. So while I was shovelling the snow, I was thinking those things and telling myself to prove these people or these words wrong. Unfortunately, once I finished shovelling the snow, I couldn't shake those thoughts. They just kept replaying in my head. Then, I took out the new Self Magazine that came in the mail for me today:
This is why I faith in a higher power. I couldn't have needed this magazine at a better time! One of the articles was an excerpt from the Editor-in-Chief, Lucy S. Danziger's, new book The Nine Rooms of Happiness. It uses the metophor of a house to describe areas in our lives that people have both positive and negative thoughts (e.g. - bedroom is for romantic relationships, living room for friendships, office is for financial obligations). As I was reading this, it really help me get out of my funk and recognize that I was staying in the past to find motivation when I really should be looking at the present and the future for motivation and inspiration. I'm going to check out the book this weekend.
On the fashion front:
I need to save money for better fitting running clothes. Most of my workout clothes are baggy on me now. I’m excited about my outfits for tomorrow! I have a work event that I have to photgraph and then off to a dinner party!
I got a new gym membership to Snap Fitness 24-7. I now have unlimited access to the gym 24-7, 7 days a week! I will start Thursday with a date with the elliptical! Tredmill, soon . . very soon ;)
